From Montenegro to Germany: A Journey of Professional Growth and Cultural Exploration

Hello Fellows,

My name is Amar Hajrović, and I come from a small but beautiful country called Montenegro. I am a master’s student at the Faculty of Economics in Podgorica, majoring in Finance and Accounting. Last year, I completed a four-months long internship in the department of Strategy and Corporate Communication at the company Heine+Beisswenger Group in Fellbach , where I gained my first practical work experience.

After a very pleasant interview with the employees of H+B, I received an offer to do the internship at their company, which operates in the metal and steel production. The sector of metal industry was completely unknown to me at that time, so I was nervous about how everything would go when the time came to start the internship. Given that I was in the strategy department, which plays a crucial role in the organizational hierarchy of the company, I had to better understand the market to respond to the daily tasks given to me. I had the opportunity to dive into many different areas and contribute to topics such as the creation of the Code of Conduct, I development of the H+B Sustainability Strategy for 2030, Market research, Analysis of competition on social media and much more.

I was involved in the company’s day to day business and activities which gave me the opportunity to meet many valuable people who inspired me for further personal and professional development. Persistence, vision, problem-solving, patience, and precision are some of the things I acquired during my internship in that company.

Looking back and considering my entire time spent in Germany, I claim that the Zoran Djindjic Internship Programme of German Business for the Countries of the Western Balkans is the best thing that has happened to my life. Meeting new people, facing new situations every day, learning the language, traveling, and the work environment are just some of the things that affect your personal and professional experience.

I had the opportunity to spend four months in one of the economically most developed cities in Germany, the city of Mercedes, Porsche, Bosch, and many others. I spent most of my time exploring Stuttgart and other cities in Germany with other scholarship holders from our Programme who were interns at various companies across Germany.

Constant communication and socializing with other participants from our Programme further enriched my time in Germany. After just a few days of hanging out with them felt like I had known them my whole life and that I would build long-term friendships.

The Internship Programme of German Business is an excellent opportunity for those who want to meet a new culture and step out of their comfort zone to embark on an unforgettable life adventure. I take this opportunity to encourage readers to do so. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the alumni. Being involved in the Internship Programme of German Business once means that you would like to pay back – since my return to Montenegro I am one of the coordinators of our local alumni club in Montenegro. Let’s further develop and expanse this network of young people from the Countries of the Western Balkans and Croatia.

Step out of the zone of mediocrity and embrace the best experience of your life!

Warmest regards from sunny Montenegro!
